Founded in 1889 by Civil War veteran Charles Jefferson Wright at the foot of Storm King Mountain, New York Military Academy is one of America's oldest military boarding schools. Daily Schedule
Days begin at 6:00 a.m. and conclude at 10:00 p.m. Cadets attend classes, participate in mandatory athletics (interscholastic or intramural), and complete nightly mentored study hall. Closed weekends include additional leadership training, drill and ceremony practice, and barracks maintenance. Cadets in good standing may apply for weekend furlough during open weekends.
Discipline Model
The Corps of Cadets operates under the NYMA Honor Code shared with West Point: 'A cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal, or tolerate those who do.' Self-discipline, leadership, and citizenship are integrated into daily life. As cadets advance in rank, they assume increasing responsibility for supervising, leading, and instructing fellow cadets through the cadet chain of command. JROTC participation and the military program are required for graduation.

Varsity Sports
Mandatory PT
All cadets are required to participate in athletics throughout the school year. The academy fields varsity and junior varsity teams competing in the Hudson Valley Athletic League (HVAL) and New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC). Intramural options include flag football, dodgeball, kickball, pickleball, and cornhole. The wrestling program has earned national recognition with multiple state champions and National Prep All-Americans.
Facilities
120-acre campus at the foot of Storm King Mountain features 51 buildings including historic barracks (Jones Barracks, Pattillo Hall refurbished in 2025), gymnasium historically used by the New York Knicks in the late 1960s and early 1970s, 3,000-square-foot fitness center, state-of-the-art wrestling facility opened in 2025, multiple athletic fields, and outdoor training areas.
