La Salle Institute
Troy, NY
"truth, honor and duty"
The Verdict
La Salle Institute is one of America's oldest continuously operating military schools, founded in 1850 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers to serve immigrant families in Troy, New York.
What sets LSI apart is the fusion of Lasallian Catholic values with a mandatory Army JROTC program—a combination that has produced 100% college acceptance rates for three consecutive years and nearly $83 million in scholarships over four years. The JROTC program, designated an "Honor Unit with Distinction," isn't optional window dressing—it's the backbone of character formation for every high school cadet.

High school students participate in mandatory Army JROTC, developing discipline and leadership through the cadet battalion structure.
Discipline Model
The JROTC leadership program emphasizes self-discipline, personal responsibility, and respect. Cadets operate within a battalion structure established in 1981, with opportunities to lead through positions in the cadet chain of command.
