The Verdict

For more than 140 years, the U.S. Naval War College has stood as the Navy's "Home of Thought," shaping the strategic minds that guide American seapower and joint operations. Nestled on the historic shores of Narragansett Bay in Newport, Rhode Island, NWC delivers the nation's premier graduate-level professional military education to senior officers from all services, select government civilians, and international allies. Here, future fleet commanders, combatant command leaders, and national security strategists master the art of warfare, hone their critical thinking through rigorous seminar discussions, and participate in world-class wargaming exercises that have influenced American military doctrine since the days of Alfred Thayer Mahan. The College's mission is clear: educate and develop leaders who will define the future Navy, support combat readiness, and strengthen global maritime partnerships across an increasingly complex security environment.
