Daily Schedule
Cadets follow a highly structured daily routine modeled after military life. Days begin early with physical training and continue with academic instruction, meals, community service projects, career exploration workshops, and team-building activities. Evenings include supervised study time and character development sessions. The consistent schedule—performed the same way every day—instills discipline and structure that many cadets have never experienced.
Discipline Model
The program follows a quasi-military structure emphasizing self-discipline, personal responsibility, and positive motivation. Cadets must adhere to military grooming standards, wear military-style uniforms, and observe standard military customs and courtesies. Rank advancement rewards growth and positive traits, while the chain of command teaches respect for authority and prepares cadets for real-world workplace dynamics.

Physical Training
Physical Fitness Program
Physical fitness is one of the eight core components of the National Guard Youth Challenge Program. Cadets perform daily physical training based on the President's Challenge fitness test battery. Staff are responsible for cadets' physical conditioning and accountability. The rigorous PT program builds physical resilience and teaches the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.
Facilities
The campus is located deep in the rural Appalachian Mountains of Harlan County, Kentucky—the remote location eliminates outside distractions and lets cadets focus entirely on their future. Facilities support the residential program including housing, classrooms, dining, and physical training areas. Cadets access vocational training through Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College's Harlan campus for carpentry, welding, and automotive certifications.
Note: Youth Challenge programs emphasize physical fitness as one of the Eight Core Components, focusing on building endurance, strength, and healthy habits rather than varsity athletics.
