The Verdict

Franklin Military Academy made history in 1980 as the nation's first public military school—proving that rigorous military structure and leadership development don't require a private school tuition. As a magnet school within Richmond Public Schools, FMA offers an alternative path where every student wears a uniform, takes Military Science daily, and learns discipline through the Army JROTC framework.

With 100% AP participation, a 90% graduation rate exceeding the state average, and College Success Awards in 2020 and 2021, this small school of 314 cadets consistently outperforms expectations.
